Warm Up America! Joins Yarnsgiving Initiative to Create Handmade Lap Blankets for Charity
[Carrollton, TX, October 2024] – Warm Up America! (WUA!), a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to providing handmade blankets to those in need, is thrilled to partner with the Craft Yarn Council for Yarnsgiving. As part of this collaborative effort, makers participating in Yarnsgiving will be encouraged to create and donate knitted or crocheted sections, which will later be joined into cozy lap blankets for charity.
Yarnsgiving, an initiative promoting the joy of crafting and giving with yarn, will run from I Love Yarn Day, October 12th to December 3rd, culminating on Giving Tuesday. During this time, makers from all over the United States will have the opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause by making and donating sections for lap blankets.
"Warm Up America! is honored to be part of Yarnsgiving and grateful for the opportunity to harness the collective creativity and generosity of the crafting community," said Jenny Bessonette, Executive Director at Warm Up America!. "Through the creation of these handmade lap blankets, we aim to provide comfort and warmth to individuals in need, including those in seniors centers and hospital patients."
The goal of Yarnsgiving is to collect 2,500 sections, which will be assembled into 100 lap blankets. These blankets will then be distributed to various charities, serving communities across the nation. Additionally, monetary donations will be encouraged on Giving Tuesday to support the ongoing efforts of Warm Up America!.
"We are excited to partner with retailers to further our mission of spreading warmth and compassion," added Jenny Bessonette. "Retailers can make a monetary donation during Yarnsgiving, supporting their corporate social responsibility initiatives while positively impacting communities in need."
Retailers who make a monetary donation during Yarnsgiving will receive recognition on the Yarnsgiving and Warm Up America! websites, as well as on social media platforms. The collective goal is to raise $50,000 during the Yarnsgiving period, providing vital support for Warm Up America!'s charitable endeavors.
