Warm Up America!’s annual ‘Made With Love’ to warm DFW’s needy
Carrollton, TX (December 7, 2017) - Imagine going through the winter without warm clothes to keep you company. Even in the mild winters of Texas, a hat or scarf can make all the difference between staying warm or bracing the cold.
Warm Up America!’s annual ‘Made With Love’ event will bring community members together to share some love and warmth with people who may not have access to a nice scarf. Planned for Jan. 6, 2018, the event, which is being supported by the Dallas Housing Authority and Dallas Police Department, will leave knit and crocheted hats and scarves with tags that say: Take me, I’m yours! hanging from trees and fences in neighborhoods in Dallas and in Downtown Fort Worth for people to take and use to keep warm.
“There were a ton of people that came out and everyone was excited to be there,” Farmers Branch police officer Kristofor Garrett said of the 2017 event. “Once we started hanging everything up and the residents came out and realized they were free, they were more than grateful.”
The goal is to collect 2,000 donations. Anyone who would like to donate a knitted or crocheted hat or scarf (note: items can be any size from child to adult) can drop or mail them to the Warm Up America! office by Dec. 23:

ABOUT WARM UP AMERICA!
Started in a small Wisconsin town with neighbors knitting and crocheting afghans for neighbors in need, Warm Up America! is a charity that has warmed people's lives since 1991. Founder Evie Rosen came up with the idea of having volunteers knit or crochet small sections and then others join them together to make a full afghan, which quickly caught on. Thanks to the generosity of knitters and crocheters around the country, today Warm Up America! distributes warm afghans, caps and other items to tens of thousands of people in need.
